Hello, Sun
Or, today?? is it hot enough for shorts? mom!! is it hot enough today?!
Sunshine! The return of sun always makes me nostalgic for spring and summer days gone by. Last year, I yearned for sunny days of college that found me "spending" afternoons eating Cats Cookies, watching reruns of Roseanne and painting my nails at least every 36 hours. This WAS a great chunk of life. To a lesser degree, so was drinking 22s of Steel Reserve in the front yard at 3PM. "Don't you know Steel Reserve is for the homeless?" I didn't. Now I do. Thank you. I don't desire any of that this time 'round. Now, the sun is inspiring entirely different memories.
I don't want Low Fat Trader Joe's Organic Ginger Cats Cookies anymore. I want 2 packs of generic cheese and peanut butter crackers with an orange Simply Soda. Then a Dad’s Old Fashioned Rootbeer. Then a Lime Simply Soda. I want to sit in my childhood air-conditioned basement and watch Innerspace, play 3 hours of Streets of Rage 2, then maybe watch Innerspace again. I want to swim for 6 hours only stopping to drink pitchers of Pink Swimmingo Kool-Aid and eat Cheese Tortillas (because I don't know what the word Quesedilla means yet). I want to do summersaults for 45 minutes, goddammit!
Sunshine like this shouldn't be about taking vitamins and typing phrases like "per our conversation". It should be about building forts and brainstorming new curse word combinations while riding bikes.
